Liturgical Ministries

Every time we gather in prayer, there are teams of people in different ministries, both during mass and behind the scenes, that work hand-in-hand to set the tone for our worship and our praise.

Altar Servers

Altar Servers offer service to God and the community by assisting the priest during Mass. Adult and young men and women alike assist the Priest and/or Deacon at the Altar for all weekend, Holy Day and school Masses. Adults assist at non-school Masses or when school is not in session.

Extraordinary Ministers of the Eucharist

Parishioners assist with the distribution of the Eucharist (Body and Blood) at weekday, weekend and Holy Day Masses. Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion (formerly known as Eucharistic Ministers) must have received the Sacrament of Confirmation in the Catholic Church and, if married, must be recognized by the Church. Training is on-going.

Lectors

Lectors proclaim the Word of the Lord during the Liturgy and, when there is no Deacon present, the General Intercessions. A lector must have a passion for Scripture; an ability to interpret and understand Scripture; and, sufficient public speaking skills to proclaim the Word to the assembly. Training in the specifics of the ministry is provided throughout the year.

Liturgical Environment

The Art & Environment ministry assists with the vital “behind the scenes” work of transforming our worship environment for the different liturgical seasons of the year: Ordinary Time, Advent, Christmas, Lent, the Triduum, Easter and Feast Days. The ministry of liturgical environment goes far beyond decorating. Ministers of art and environment, through prayerful and informed use of signs and symbols, enable the assembly to enter more fully into worship.

Music

Liturgical music is an integral part of our worship celebrations. The musical styles of our community present a unique and spiritual element that enables our congregation to lift up their voices in praise. Although the various groups have different styles, different rehearsal times, different commitment levels, and different Mass schedules, they all strive toward a common goal: to lead the congregation in sung prayer and to glorify God through the music they each produce.

Welcome Ministers

The adult men and women who make up the Welcome Ministers are the first ministers one meets when they arrive at the church for any celebration. Their warm, friendly smile and welcoming handshake set the tone for the worship experience. A pleasant and outgoing personality is important for all greeters, who also double as ushers at any given Sunday Mass or special occasion.
